Allah!
One Nation Under Allah!
In Budda We Trust.
I don’t know about you, but this doesn’t sit right with me. I tend to cringe a little bit just repeating the above.
Many people today think all religions are pretty much the same. They think we are all really worshiping the same god; we just have different names for him.
The New York Times recently published a story concerning the motive of an Islamic terrorist in the United Kingdom and freely equated the words “Allah” with “God” throughout the feature story.
Equating all gods and all religions are the same is especially prevalent in our political houses these days. They call it being politically correct.
Last month, in order to be “politically correct,” a state-sanctioned Hindu prayer opened the morning session of the United States Senate.
The Hindu religions worship many gods and goddesses. If the United States were founded on Hinduism, we’d all be singing, “gods bless America” right now.
In the Netherlands, a Roman Catholic Bishop, Tiny Muskens, believes we could ease tensions around the world between radical Islamic followers and Christians, if we stopped calling God, God, and started calling Him Allah.
His point is that it’s really all about what language you are speaking. If you are in a region that speaks Arabic, then you should call him Allah; if you are in an area that speaks English, then call Him God.
This implies that we worship the same god worshipped in the Koran, but we do not. Calling God any other name than what is written in the Bible, would be accepting another god and another religion.
Many of our elected political “leaders” who are now making legal determinations affecting our faith and our religious beliefs, really have none of their own. They aren’t Christians. They don’t know God. Yet they are making laws that destroy the 400-year-old Christian foundations of our country.
It’s politically correct to abort and destroy an innocent living being in the infancy of its life. It’s politically correct to condone extra-marital sex, or same-gender sex. It’s politically correct to have same sex marriages. It’s politically correct to remove God from all governmental buildings, courtrooms and schools.
Now there is a bill making its way through Congress and the Senate that will criminalize Christianity. This bill would make it “politically correct” to arrest those evangelical Christians who speak the truth as written in the Bible, or attempt to spread the Gospel in the public square.
I believe that Jesus refers to that as the “Great Commission.” Go ye, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you … (Matthew 18:19-20).
The 1606 Virginia Charter, the very foundation of our country, was based upon spreading the Gospel. But our politically elected officials are trying to make that politically “incorrect.”

So what are we going to do? Allow our representatives to continue to wipe away our religious freedoms and our Christian beliefs?
Are we going to accept a one-size fits all religion. I think they call that humanism.
We have a very jealous God. A very demanding God, who put His laws, His commandments, and His word into the most precious of all books, the Bible. The Bible warns us very clearly about being deceived, and against accepting the teachings of false prophets. It also warns us against worshiping idols and putting other “gods” before Him.
There is only one true God. There is only one Jesus Christ, whose ultimate sacrifice paid the price for our salvation.

Oh God we praise you and will put no false god before you!

“We don’t want The Church Guide in our church because it has advertisements in it!”

“We don’t want The Church Guide in our church because it is too Baptist oriented for us!”

“We don’t want The Church Guide in our church because it is just too charismatic and we aren’t that way here!”

“We don’t want The Church Guide in our church because it is way too Pentecostal for our church members!”

“We don’t want to put an ad in The Church Guide because we don’t have enough parking spaces for the people who are already coming here. Why should we add to the problem!”

“We feel it’s wrong to advertise. God will lead people to this church who are supposed to be here!”

“We don’t want to be known as a Christian business because it will offend some people and they won’t use our services (products) anymore!”

“Newspapers are dead, nobody reads them anymore!”

As the publisher of The Church Guide, I’ve heard all of these comments many, many times and a lot more than just these.

Over the years, I’ve learned that I can’t take such comments personally. After all, this is God’s newspaper … not mine. It just shows that some people haven’t stopped to read the articles, stories, and testimonies shared within our pages.

Such comments typically show a lack of knowledge about this media ministry, & not understanding the power of print.

One purpose of this newspaper is to inspire and to encourage the

20% in Hampton Roads who are Christians. The bigger purpose is targeted at the remaining 80% who do not go to church and do not have a relationship with God.

Imagine with me for one minute, that you are not a Christian or that you have been burned by the church years ago. You don’t have a church that you regularly attend now and you have no real desire to put yourself back into a system that has hurt you.

Now imagine that you are sitting at your local auto repair shop, or in a hospital waiting room, or maybe waiting to be seated at your favorite family restaurant.

As you are waiting for your car to be worked on, you stumble across The Church Guide. You pick it up because of the colorful front cover and the clever title that grabbed your attention quickly.

You sit down, take a sip of coffee and begin reading this intriguing FREE publication. As you begin to read the articles, your heart goes through a few different emotions.

First, maybe you feel conviction and you agree with a lot of what the writer is saying about Jesus, that Jesus is the answer for many of your problems, repentance and following Christ, no matter what.

Then you get to an article that challenges you, and you find yourself battling with the deep questions within your soul that leave you asking yourself, “Is Jesus real? Can God forgive me? Does He really love me?

And you read stories and testimonies of encouragement and inspiration, and you begin to wonder … “Can I find joy in my life again?”

I asked you to imagine this scenario in hopes that you would remember a time in your life when you were that person. Maybe you still are that person.

Whatever the case may be, isn’t it good to know that by reading The Church Guide, those people who don’t go to church can still hear the Word of God and learn more about what Jesus did on the cross, simply by reading a few articles?

I believe that God loves everyone … including those that call themselves Christians as well as those who have no relationship with Him at all. God wants us all to know the “good news” concerning His first and second coming.

The Church Guide strives really hard each month to provide a resource for people everywhere – Christians and non-Christians. Our goal is to touch the hearts of those who open its pages, only to find out what God wants to say to them.

Over the years, I have received numerous emails from people that have been horribly burned by the church and want nothing to do with it. And then they read our paper, because they saw it at a local business and decided to rededicate their life to Christ, just because of an article that they read.

This is why I said that people don’t know what they are talking about when they say “newspapers are dead!” Yes, there are many daily newspapers that are dead but not Christian publications. And on top of that, the power of print is amazing! It changes people’s lives, especially when it comes from a paper that has the power of the Holy Spirit breathing life into its pages each month.

Now don’t misunderstand me, I am not saying that The Church Guide is better than church –- not at all! If you haven’t been to church in years, you honestly need to reconsider going back.

The Bible says in Hebrews 10:24-25: “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” The Church Guide is meant to be a place where likeminded individuals can place their trust in other likeminded ministries and business. We are here to be a resource and to provide the readers content to draw them closer to Jesus.

This commentary is not intended to put a guilt trip on you about supporting The Church Guide. God is our primary resource, providers and supporter. However, I would love for everyone who has the same heart as we do, to get behind us by supporting our mission. The purpose of this commentary is for those who are negative due to the fact that they have been mislead by false information or simply have a misconception about newspapers … especially Christian newspapers and Christian media ministries.

Each month I hear the stories of lives being changed and hearts being turned towards Jesus. This newspaper is alive because our God is alive. He dwells in me and He dwells in The Church Guide.

I took my 85-year-old step-father to the doctors the other day.

While sitting in the waiting room, I received a call on my cell phone. Glancing at my phone I noticed it was an out-of-area call. Normally that means a sales person of some sort, and as I was sitting in a waiting room, I decided I would let it message over into my voice mail box.

Moments later, my curiosity got the best of me, so I decided to listen to the message that had been left. I don’t know how it happened, but when I went to listen to the call in my voice mailbox, I somehow got connected to the person who had just made the call.

He identified himself as Jim Wright fromVienna,Virginia, and said that he had become acquainted with The Church Guide over the weekend while visitingVirginia Beach. He then lavished me with praise about how wonderful this newspaper is and that he had never seen anything like it. He went on to say that The Church Guide ministry could have a “national” impact for the Kingdom.

Quite delighted at all that I was hearing, Jim went on to say, “there’s more.” I’ve got to share with you what can only be described as a God encounter through divine appointment while in your city.

Jim has a fiancé named Cindy Little who was aRegentUniversitygraduate, but is now working on her doctorate atCatholicUniversity. Together they had planned to go toTrinityChurchat the oceanfront for Sunday services. (I hope I can tell the story accurately). Prior to going to the church services, they stopped by a McDonalds for a cup of coffee.

While in the restaurant, a group of individuals got up to leave, except for this one, rugged old man, who walked up to the couple and asked if they would give him four dollars so that he could buy a sandwich.

Jim and Cindy befriended the chap, who they learned was homeless. They bought him something to eat, and while talking with him, they asked if he was a Christian. Did he know Jesus?

They all chatted for a while, and Jim and Cindy asked the man if he would like to go to church with them – and he said yes.

So they took the disheveled man with him, and all three attended services atTrinityChurchthat Sunday morning.

Jim shared with me that during the sermon, he was wondering, what are we going to do with this man once the service is over. He’s homeless, and we’ve got to return to northernVirginiathis evening. Lord what are we going to do?

After the service, the homeless man said that he was going to go to the back of the church and get a cup of coffee.

Charles Lyte is sitting in a pew directly behind the three, and he gets up and goes to the back of the church to talk with the homeless fellow, as do Jim and Cindy.

The man seems extremely nervous and agitated as he makes his way to the back of the church. Once he had a cup of coffee in his hands, he again shares that he has no food and no place to live. That no place will take him. He also shares that he is Schizophrenic, and that he has heard voices in the past, and that he had been kicked out of a shelter recently.

The three of them begin praying over the man, comforting him and assuring him that all would be alright. Charles tells him that there are numerous places that can feed him and give him shelter. Broken and with little hope, he turns to Jesus. They then led him through the sinners prayer, and the man’s overall demeanor completely changed. His thoughts didn’t seem to be racing all over the place. He seemed to be more at peace. He became quite calm and easier to talk to.

Charles then goes over to the Welcome Area and picks up a copy of The Church Guide and brings it over to share with Jim, Cindy and the homeless man – showing them the “Help and Assistance” pages, telling the man that he’s not alone, and that there are ministries in the area that could provide help and shelter. He reminds the man that there are rules that need to be followed at all the shelters, but assures him that none would just kick him out. At that point Charles some money for bus fare and asks the man to come with him. He and Charles then leave together, and Charles drives him to a shelter, where he got him the help he needed.

Jim and Cindy are still amazed at the series of events that Sunday morning. They know that God arranged each and every thing that happened that day. The feel that this homeless man was instrumental in bringing our two ministries together.

So I got this wonderful call from a new friend. I can sense the presence of God as we talked on the phone. I can sense His presence as I check out his ministry, Birthmother Ministries, and read the information on the webpages.

I can hear the Lord telling me that churches in Hampton Roads need to get involved in this ministry, and that His paper, The Church Guide is the vehicle to do it.

I love it when the Lord is that near to you. Not only is He looking over my shoulder as I do what He asks of me, but He is in me, behind me, above me, in front of me. He’s all about me. And there is so much joy. No matter what He calls you to do, or say, or hear, there’s joy.

So it brings me much joy to share this issue with you. He’s all through it.

The Rev. Joe Jordan will be teaching on the Holy Spirit, spiritual gifts, and ministering in the Spirit at the “School in the Gifts of the Holy Spirit” this November 4-6th. He will be sharing with you in the same way the Goodwins ministered to him, John Osteen, Kenneth Hagin, and many others over the years. This school is open to everyone, but is especially beneficial to pastors and ministers. You will learn in teaching and application, “How to Develop and Work with the Holy Ghost.”

Tutored by the best, Joe Jordan was on pastoral staff for years under Rev. and Mrs. J.R. Goodwin, better known as “Papa and Momma Goodwin”. Brother Kenneth E. Hagin said the Goodwin’s church was the best example of how to flow with the Holy Spirit according to God’s Word.

Joe Jordan says that “in First Corinthians 12:1 Paul admonished us not to be ignorant concerning spiritual gifts and in First Corinthians14:12he urges us to seek to excel in this matter.” Let me to have Joe Jordan himself extend this invitation…

“It has been my privilege and joy to instruct in this subject for the 48 years of my traveling ministry.

The Holy Spirit can do more in a moment that we can do in a lifetime! Any pastor who thinks he can get the job done without the help of the Spirit of God is misguided.

I received my training under a pastor and his wife who ministered prolifically in the gifts. They were – Rev. and Mrs. J. R. Goodwin ofPasadena,Texas. They are now in glory but their legacy is rich and replete with stories of God’s super-natural intervention in the lives of people. They ministered from time to time in all nine of the gifts, but primarily in the twin gifts of divers kinds of tongues & the interpretation of tongues.

“Mom” Goodwin would give the tongue and “Dad” Goodwin would interpret. To give an example – One time Mom spoke four words in tongues and Dad gave the four word interpretation. The interpretation was “Trust cancels out sweat.” When you analyze that, it speaks volumes.

Divers kinds of Tongues and the Interpretation of Tongues are the signature gifts of the New Testament Church. They were the two special gifts given specifically to the Church while the other seven gifts worked beautifully in Old Testament times and were brought over into the New. All the gifts are life-changing.”

The Church Guide is teaming up with Tidewater Area Christian Fellowship in hosting this much needed school in our area. Seating is limited, and we pray that you will set aside the time to be a part of this great teaching. Each evening there will be free Healing Services and open to the public. Because of limited seating, school attendees will have first choice of available seating.

Three days of teaching, worship, and spiritual knowledge for only $35 (see ad for additional discounts). We encourage you to register today at www.giftsofholyspirit.com.

Joe Jordan will be joined by three other seasoned pastors who will assist in these teachings. They are Pastors Wally Odum, Gil Howard-Browne and Larry Reece …

Wally Odum has pastored In Virginia,Marylandand the Outer Banks, NC After twenty-one years of pastoral ministry inVirginia Beach, he and his wife, Gwen, moved toSydney,Australiain 1999. They lived there for two years, preaching in every region of that country. He is now part of the teaching team at The Life Church inManassas,Virginia. He has ministered in conferences inAustralia,Canada,Great BritainandIndiaas well as his widespread ministry in theUnited States. Wally’s ministry is one of encouragement. His theme has been the grace of God that reaches to all of us bringing hope and strength. He believes that it is through the power and ministry of the Holy Spirit that the Word of God comes alive. Wally believes that every believer can depend on the power of the Holy Spirit in order to minister effectively. His ministry is designed to help God’s people do that.

Gil Howard-Browne and his wife,Lorraine, are celebrating their twentieth anniversary of their ministry in theUnited Statesafter leavingSouth Africa. He and his family lived in a motor home, and traveled across the country ministering in the Spirit of Revival and brought spiritual refreshing to churches across theU.S.andCanada. His messages have touched lives in over 4,500 meetings. Gil is a much-sought after speaker throughout the globe, and is often called to speak on the spiritual gifts. He has been called to speak at conferences inChina, the Phillippines,Australia,South Africa,Norway,Sweden,GermanyandScotland. You will see the demonstration of the Holy Spirit’s power in each meeting, with signs and wonders and miracles taking place. People have been healed from depression, suicidal tendencies, hatred, marriages saved, physical healing and new zeal and vision for God.

Larry Reece completed Rev. Joe Jordan’sSchoolofThe Holy Spiritin the mid-1970s. After attending this school, God began to use Larry in all 9 Gifts of The Holy Spirit, and he continues to use these gifts today in his ministry. Pastor Larry has been privileged to be a part of many of Joe Jordan’s healing meetings, and has witnessed many creative miracles at these services. Ordained some 30 years ago and involved in ministry ever since, today Larry is the Senior Pastor of Tidewater Area Christian Fellowship inVirginia Beach. His focus is solely on God and His Word as he seeks true intimacy with Him. By allowing the Holy Spirit to lead him, his services are always fresh and filled with excitement as people wonder what God will do this time! And, they are never disappointed as God always shows up and opens the heavens to bless His believers. He is looking forward to what God will do in this School and the evening healing meetings.

Search engines report that lookups for the word “rapture” peaked on May 21st.
That is the day that an outspoken religious radio host predicted the day of judgment would occur.
The end of the world did not take place, but many people wanted to know what the “rapture” was all about.
That is because the majority of people living today are not Christian. They don’t know Jesus, and sadly, they probably have never had anyone take the time to personally share the good news about Jesus with them.
Although we are living in the end-of-times, the Word of God tells us that we will not know the time of His return. “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man comes” Matt. 25:13.
“The disciples came unto Him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the world [age]?” (Matt. 24:3) His long answer begins with: “Take heed that no man deceive you” (vs. 4).
We all know the Rapture did not occur on May 21st. That means we still have time to get “right” with God, continue His work, share His good news, and make disciples for the Kingdom.
That is the purpose of The Church Guide, and the calling of every Christian.
The Church Guide is an end-of-times media ministry. I have previously shared this calling with my readers, and for those new to The Church Guide, it can be read in greater detail on our website at www.TheChurchGuide.com, as well as on our blog, http://thechurchguide.com/blog.
At the beginning of this year, the Spirit of the Lord shared with me the time is getting shorter. More action is needed. A greater effort needs to be taken to reach out to our neighbors who do not know Christ.
More than one million people in Hampton Roads do not attend church, and do not have a loving relationship with Jesus (read more on our website). There is time to change that.
The Lord has tasked me this year to expand the ministry of The Church Guide. I am to increase the numbers of newspapers being circulated, and I am to make it more available throughout our cities.
I have spent hours calculating that to double, maybe even triple the number of newspapers being circulated monthly, and to purchase 100 news boxes to place around Hampton Roads, will require an additional expenditure of approximately $43,800.
To do that, I’m going to need God’s help. However, He has reassured me that His people will come to boost this ministry and pour out blessings to fill this financial need.
Thank you Jesus!
September is the date I have been given to see His Will manifest in this ministry. September 10th to be exact … which happens to be 9/10/11 a very prophetic date for me, and my birthday. What a birthday present. September will also be the 100th edition of The Church Guide, a milestone in its own, a sign of obedience, dedication and blessings.
God’s blessings have already begun to manifest themselves. A group of Christians have offered to host a benefit on behalf of The Church Guide on June 11th. It is to be called, “Worship That Impacts the World.” My thanks to all those who are involved in this concert, and you can read more about it on the center spread of this issue. I hope you will come out and support this great event.
I continue to pray that The Church Guide will receive the support it needs from our brothers and sisters in Christ for this media ministry. Such benefits and fundraisers are a blessing, as is your financial support through your advertisements in this newspaper and on its website.
It’s all in the name of love. God’s love for us and His desire to spend eternity with each of us.
It’s been more than 2000 years since the Son of Man walked this earth and nothing has changed. This world is still anti-Christian. There is still persecution, hating and reviling of Christians.
It’s a spiritual battle of the mind and the heart. Ephesians 6 tells us that we do not struggle “against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
So its good to know that our Father, our Savior, hasn’t changed either. The Holy Spirit STILL dwells inside of us.
Whether He is forced to share a tiny little efficiency with the rest of the world, or is King of the town, is totally up to you. Don’t ever think that God does not love you, or that He isn’t with you. He’s there inside you. As long as you are breathing, as long as there is even the slimmest of possibilities of you wanting a relationship with Him, He’s there. He loves you that much.
We often say that we are looking for a sign from God. Well its just the opposite. He’s looking for a sign from you — a sign that you need Him; a sign that you love Him; a sign you put your trust in Him.
If you abide in Him, he’ll abide in you.
If you put your faith in Him, trust in Him; open up your life and surrender it totally to Him out of love, He’s moving in and the blessings He brings will never end.
More of Him and less of us is what we should all be striving for in our lives. So much so, that people see Him in our walk. We begin to emulate Him. His love shines through us. It’s unstoppable.
Because God is LOVE.
The more of Him we want and desire, the more love we experience, and feel, and share. We can’t hold it all in. His love will flow out of us in everything we do, or say, or think.
That’s what I call the good news. When we come to know Jesus and His love, we want to be sure that everyone feels His love just as we do. And as His love consumes us, we find it becomes more and more important to share how great our God is and how much He loves us all.
It’s that love which changes us and transforms the world.
The Church Guide wants the one million people in Hampton Roads who do not know Christ, to know He loves them and that He alone is the answer to ALL their worldly problems.
There is an ember of God’s love burning inside them.
All God needs is a sign that they want more. The Church Guide is the kindling. If they pick it up, it’s fuel for the fire waiting to burn within.

I was awakened from my sleep and felt the Spirit of the Lord wanted me to address the much publicized rapture of Christians which is supposedly to take place tomorrow, Saturday, May 21st.

That is a false prophecy from a misdirected but very outspoken religious leader, Harold Camping the President of Family Radio. The Lord revealed to me that this was no more than witchcraft designed to harm the teachings of the Church and the foundations of our faith. This prophecy is based upon numerology in the Bible. God has made it known pretty clearly on how He feels about soothsayers, astrology, wizards, and false prophets. Numerology is no different. God warns us of false prophets as the time gets near.

The Word of God tells us that we will not know the time of His return.

The Word of God is the truth. God wants us to have wisdom and knowledge so that we can live our lives as Saints. He doesn’t hide truth from us. He warns us, corrects us, prepares us so that we can receive His many blessings. He doesn’t hide it in the pages of His Word.

We as Christians need to continue to be and to do all God has called us to do. We need to win souls for Jesus, as many as possible before He actually does come. We need to teach, equip and prepare our brothers and sisters in Christ to spread the good news of our Savior. We also need to KNOW the Word so that we will not be deceived by false prophets and misrepresentations of the Word.

Let us stand together, uniting the Body of Christ in Hampton Roads and show those who will be amused at this false prophecy and mock our faith, that we serve an awesome God, that Jesus Christ is alive, and that His Spirit and His Church is also alive and well in Hampton Roads.

We encourage all our readers to visit our website: www.thechurchguide.com where you can find an online version of our monthly printed Christian newspaper. There you will also find almost 100 pages providing information about Christian outreaches, ministries, churches, help and assistance, businesses and events in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.
